The Luminary

  • Typography

The Luminary Center for the Arts is located in St. Louis, MO. and is a place for artistic research, production and presentation. I was asked to collaborate with Vadim Gershman on creating a brand identity for the center. The logo implies three-dimensional space while still existing as a two-dimensional mark. The implied space and architecture represents the Luminary Center and how it functions in the community as an open, experimental forum. The logo is a modular system further emphasizing the experimental nature of The Luminary.

Cirque du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil is a group of performers self-described as a 'dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment'. The current advertising and branding is mostly geared towards children. These posters show the dancer’s body as a blank canvas that color, pattern and hand drawn elements are laid over. The emphasis is on the human form to enhance the importance of these bodies as machines in the performances.

27 is a brand of wine based off of the traditions of Morse code. The winery is based in California where the first trans-Pacific flight took off from and was the first flight to use radio telegraph communications. Morse code is an internationally recognized language that was used heavily in the 1900s primarily in radio transmissions. The number 27 was shorthand for the word Priority meaning that the message being received was of high importance. The 27 brand uses black and white 1930’s photography as well a primarily black and white color pallet, also, the labels are based on QSL radio cards from that same time period; all resulting in an unique, secretive identity.

LØM mats are delivered pre-seeded with hand picked flower seeds. The mats are rolled out and laid flat on soil for easy and quick growing. The name LØM is derived from the words loam (fertile soil) and loom (a device for weaving fabrics). When buying a mat online, the user can pick and choose which flowers to seed with and create a pattern for how those flowers will grow. These hand crafted designer gardens all use flowers that will return the following season. The cap of the tube packaging can be used as a vase once flowers have bloomed.

This publication is an annual report for the Milwaukee Art Museum, taking an originally very informational publication and displaying it so that it functions on the same level as the art inside the museum. The book is white and clean much like the walls of museums. The data visualizations are unique and bright that allows for the reader to be drawn in to the information.
